Anticipating Hot Weather

Dear Families, We are looking forward to a successful week ahead as we finish the school year. Over the next few days, we are anticipating hot weather that may require our school to implement our Hot Weather protocols.  As with any weather conditions at school, we respond to the individual needs of their students and staff and prepare an appropriate action plan. Our hot weather action plan involves program modifications, air handling system modifications and reduced lighting and motor use. Such a plan may incorporate some of the following strategies which can be found in the Board’s  Extreme Hot and Cold Weather and UV Protection Guideline : Encourage students and staff to make use of shady areas in the school yard such as under trees, besides the building and under umbrellas. Jump Rope at LJPS

Thank You, Lorna Jackson Families!   We are thrilled to share that, thanks to your incredible support and generosity, our school raised $1,410 for Jump Rope for Heart in support of Heart & Stroke!   Your donations help fund life-saving research, education, and important initiatives that make a real difference in the lives of many. We are so proud of our students and school community for coming together to support such a meaningful cause.   Because our students surpassed their fundraising goal, they’ve earned a special reward — an extra 20-minute recess and a frozen yogurt treat this Monday, June 23 !   Also, please note: If your child qualified for a Thank You gift card from Heart & Stroke, you should be receiving an email from them shortly with redemption details.   Thank you again for making a difference!   — The Lorna Jackson Jump Rope for Heart Committee

Message from Our Trustee

June 2025 As we approach the end of the 2024-2025 school year, I want to take this opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments, hard work and commitment of students, staff and families. As I have visited schools, attended events and heard from families, I continue to be proud of the dedication to public education and student achievement and well-being I see.  I want to wish my sincere congratulations to all of the graduates and proud families. This is an exciting time and I hope you enjoy this celebration of all of your hard work, perseverance and accomplishments. Whether you are moving on to secondary school, the workplace or post-secondary pathways, we wish you all the very best in this next exciting chapter of your journey.  We had an opportunity in April to celebrate the achievements of 20 students at our annual Celebrating Student Success/Human Rights Ambassadors Awards event . It was a wonderful reminder of how much our students are capable of. While success...

Early Dismissal in Elementary Schools on Thursday, June 26, 2025

All schools in the York Region District School Board are committed to improving student achievement and well-being. On Thursday, June 26, 2025, an early release day will take place to allow elementary staff to take part in meetings during the afternoon of that day. These meetings will allow for school staff to engage in culminating activities regarding the review and revision of the School’s Improvement Plan as well as year-end and transition activities that support student success. As has been our practice in the past, students will attend school during the morning of Thursday, June 26, 2025 only. Students will be dismissed early that day at 12:15 pm. Arrangements  will be made to ensure that students who are normally bussed to and from school will receive  transportation at this time. Families whose children attend after school child care should make  appropriate arrangements to address this change in schedule.

Reminder of the Importance of Measles Vaccine and Records May 23, 2025

According to the latest report published by Public Health Ontario (PHO) , the number of measles cases  in Ontario continue to increase. As of May 20, there has been a total of 1,834 measles cases reported  in 2025 associated with the ongoing outbreak. York Region has reported three cases so far in 2025, but  with increased local and international travel ahead, more are anticipated.  York Region Public Health echoes the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health in reminding our local  school boards on the importance of staff and students being up to date with measles vaccination and ensuring staff are prepared to provide immunization records (or other documentation of  immunity) in a timely manner to prevent disruptions to school operations in the event of measles  cases. Please see the attached memo from Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health sent to school  boards across the province on May 13, 2025.  To support these efforts, York Re...
