  Welcome to the start of the second half of the school year.  Congratulations to secondary school students who have completed exams and culminating activities and are ready to start a new semester, and to elementary school students for all their hard work in the first term. I want to remind families that when report cards are available, you can now access your child’s report card through the Family Dashboard .  For students looking at course selection for next year, the Experience YRDSB pages on our website will let you explore the areas that interest you and learn more about the courses, programs and opportunities available in your secondary school.  At the end of January, we recognized Lunar New Year , commemorating the first day of the Lunar calendar.  LJPS is excited to announce that Racing with Autism presentation with Austin Riley will be coming to our school on January 15, 2025. 

With winter weather here, we want to share a few important reminders. At LJPS we use Environment Canada to check weather conditions daily.  Dress for the weather Students should come dressed appropriately for the weather and for outdoor play. Students can stay warm by wearing layers of loose-fitting clothing, a hat, scarf, jackets, snow pants and mittens or gloves. Students may also want to bring extra pants and socks in case they get wet. Recess If students are well enough to come to school, they are expected to go outside for recess. If there is an extenuating circumstance, please call the school office at 905-893-2829. Our students benefit from spending time outside and being active. We monitor weather conditions throughout the day.   Wellness Wednesday Dance Instruction 🕺💃   BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND … We will be hosting DANCE INSTRUCTION AT L.J.P.S.   Sabrina Tamburro has been a dancer for 16 years and will be instructing hip-hop dance moves for our upcoming Wellness Wednesday.  She will be performing hip-hop dance instruction in the gymnasium on  Wednesday, December 18  for the whole school. Each class will participate in a 30-minute dance instruction class that will include a warmup, dance instruction and cool down.     Wellness Wednesday aims to promote active participation and physical fitness to improve everyone’s overall wellbeing.

Grade 1 French Immersion (FI) Information Sessions and Registrations What is French Immersion? ● Provides opportunities for students to develop enhanced proficiency in French. ● Students receive instruction in French from teachers who are fluent in French. ● Begins in Grade 1 and is designed for children whose first language is not French. ● In Grades 1, 2 and 3, all subjects are taught in French. Starting in Grade 4, instructional time is shared equally between French and English. ● Program continues in secondary school. ● Secondary school students must earn at least 10 French Immersion credits to qualify for the French Immersion Certificate upon graduation. Important Considerations ● Grade 1 is the only entry point into French immersion in YRDSB. ● Communication with parents/guardians is in English including, but not limited to, report cards, newsletters and parent-teacher interviews. ● For the first few months of Grade 1, children may not acquire skills identical to those learned by...
