Welcome Back Everyone!

Welcome back to everyone in our Lorna Jackson P.S. community! We hope that everyone has had an enjoyable and restful summer break. Mr. Brown, Principal and Mrs. Herdman, Vice Principal would like to extend a warm welcome to all our returning and new staff that have joined us this 2024-2025 school year.  We say "Good Bye," to Mr. Dicker, Ms. Singh, Mr. Vardaro, Mr. Soowamber, Mr. Paterino, Mrs. Ahmad and Mrs. Laloi who have moved on to join and teach in other school communities. We want to welcome our new teachers, Mrs. Falcone, Mr. Ieraci, Mrs. Woodcroft and Ms. Saputo and all the teaching experiences they bring to LJPS. We also want to share that our educator teams have worked diligently to prepare for students' return to school so that 2024-2025 will be another great year! Please see the Staff Directory for a complete list of our educators below.

To make September as successful as possible please have your children at school and on time. When they start the day off on the right foot they feel more connected and comfortable as members of their classroom community. We would like to share a few helpful tips for starting the school day off on the right foot. Please make sure to set up predictable routines such as, an early bedtime, eating breakfast and packing student backpacks the night before, so that you are able to get to school on time. Also, we wanted to take the opportunity to share some resources from YRDSB to better support student mental health as it connects to our Student Mental Health and Addictions Strategy. 

Student absences occur from time to time and should your child be experiencing symptoms of illness, please keep them home and report their absence through Edsby or with a phone call to the office at 905-893-2829. If we have students attending school and they feel ill or have observable symptoms, the office will reach out and make contact for next steps. This is in an effort to keep everyone, students and staff safe.

November 3, 2023   Parents’ Night is on Thursday November 16, 2023 and during the day of Friday November 17, 2023. You will have an opportunity to meet with your child(ren)’s teacher(s) in person, and learn more about the classroom. Edsby is the online tool supported for scheduling elementary interviews/conferences. Families will receive an invitation to sign up for a meeting time once the schedules are available on Monday November 6 at 4 pm .  Edsby is a cloud-based platform that lets families easily reserve times to meet with your child(ren)’s teachers. YRDSB in partnership with Edsby have created a secure platform that protects the privacy of information for families. Welcome Back, Weather and Recess at LJPS

Happy New Year and welcome back to everyone in the LJPS community! Now that we're into our second week of 2024 we want to remind everyone that winter is in full swing. Temperatures have dropped significantly and that means we all have to come to school prepared for the cold. Please send your child (ren) to school with the appropriate hat, mitts/gloves, boots, scarf, jacket and snow pants. We will be going outside for 30 minutes every morning recess and for 40 minutes for every lunch recess. There are a few exceptions such as, if the temperature is less than -20 degrees Celsius, if it's raining, or the yard is far too icy to safely play on. Canadian winter is sometimes unpredictable and we see temperature swings that include many degrees above and below Celsius from one week to the next.
