Morning Arrival and Daily Child Screening

Parent Drop Off & Walking Students

Please be mindful of our school start and end times. School begins at 8:45 am sharp. Students are permitted on school property at 8:30 am. Please use this opportunity to get your child (ren) to school on time. When students are late, this is extremely disruptive to their learning as they enter class after instruction has begun. 

Daily Child Screening

As the cold and flu season is upon us, we are experiencing many students showing up to that are not feeling well, have upset stomach, are coughing, and in some cases vomiting. Please do not send sick children to school as this continues the spread of illness and COVID. Please use the Daily Child Screening tool to help determine if your child is ill and not able to attend school. Please use Edsby or call the office to communicate student absences. This is the tool and process we use in the office which is set up by York Public Health that guides the school in determining if students will attend or stay home while ill.

You will have an opportunity to meet with your child(ren)’s teacher(s) in person, and learn more about the classroom. Welcome Back, Weather and Recess at LJPS

Happy New Year and welcome back to everyone in the LJPS community! Now that we're into our second week of 2024 we want to remind everyone that winter is in full swing. Temperatures have dropped significantly and that means we all have to come to school prepared for the cold. Please send your child (ren) to school with the appropriate hat, mitts/gloves, boots, scarf, jacket and snow pants. We will be going outside for 30 minutes every morning recess and for 40 minutes for every lunch recess. There are a few exceptions such as, if the temperature is less than -20 degrees Celsius, if it's raining, or the yard is far too icy to safely play on. Canadian winter is sometimes unpredictable and we see temperature swings that include many degrees above and below Celsius from one week to the next. Welcome Everyone

Welcome back to everyone in our Lorna Jackson P.S. community! Mr. Brown, Principal and Mrs. Herdman, Vice Principal would like to extend a warm welcome to all our returning and new staff that have joined us this 2023-2024 school year.  We also want to share that our educator teams have worked diligently to prepare for students' return to school so that 2023-2024 will be another great year!  We would like to share a few helpful tips for starting the school day off on the right foot. Please make sure to set up predictable routines such as, an early bedtime, eating breakfast and packing student backpacks the night before, so that you are able to get to school on time.  As we move towards fall and cooler weather it is still important for families to be prudent in completing daily  self-screening   to further prevent the spread of illness and COVID.
